Rich Homie Quan sat down with Revolt TV to discuss his happiness with signing to Motown.
After the success of his breakout singles “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” the Atlanta-based rapper joined Motown in 2017. “It’s refreshing because I never saw myself signing to Motown. Growing up, loving the Temptations movie and being a fan of Michael Jackson, I just never thought I would sign to Motown. Back then, you never heard of [them] having Urban artists,” he told Revolt TV in the interview.
Immediately following joining the label, Quan released the ‘Back To The Basics’ mixtape including the singles “Da Streetz” and “Heart Cold.” In 2018, Quan released his highly anticipated full-length debut ‘Rich As In Spirit,’ which led with the singles “Changed” and “34.”
Along with the signing of Quality Control Music artists Migos and Lil Yachty, as well as DMV rapper Chaz French, legendary Atlanta producer Zaytoven, and British singer, rapper, and songwriter Stefflon Don, Motown has seen much success as the label has transitioned into the rap hemisphere over the last few years. “I would definitely say Motown is growing more and more, and I wouldn’t say it just because I’m there, but look at all the artists we got around us in our family,” said Quan of the label’s expanding roster.
