Lil Yachty uncovers the music video for his latest single “Bring It Back” today, assuming the role of prom king as he blossoms from wallflower to heartbreaker, sports interesting dance moves and possibly a saxophone solo.
The next track to debut off his upcoming album ‘Teenage Emotions,’ “Bring It Back” gives us all teenage emotions, detailing pubescent heartbreak through auto-tune and smooth drums. The video, consisting of tuxedos, ruffled prom dresses, and big hair take kids like Yachty–who were born in the mid-to-late 1990’s–into a time capsule back to a 1980’s prom that even parents can relate to. Although Yachty pleads for his love in his mournful lyrics, his liveliness shines as he dances across a table of Jello-O molds and croons under balloon arches. With cinematic production evocative of nostalgic eighties soundtracks (as reimagined in an Atlanta trap house), one only hopes John Hughes would be proud.
The song and video are just a taste of how far Yachty’s reach will go on this album, contrasting his last single “Peek A Boo” featuring Migos. Yachty, AKA the “King of the Teens” has captured the attention of his teenage audience yet again with “Bring It Back.”
‘Teenage Emotions’ will be out May 26 and is available for pre-order now. Yachty has also announced a 27-city U.S. tour to accompany the album, beginning on August 11 in Dallas, TX. Fans can also order Lil Yachty merchandise including t-shirts, hats, and a mock candy-colored grill resembling the one he wore to the 2017 GRAMMYs here.
