AS AN EXTENSION OF QUALITY CONTROL MUSIC’S JOINT VENTURE WITH CAPITOL MUSIC GROUP
ATLANTA HIP-HOP TRIO MIGOS JOINS WITH MOTOWN AND CAPITOL RECORDS TO RELEASE NEW MUSIC
As an extension of Quality Control Music’s (QC) joint venture with Capitol Music Group (CMG), Atlanta-based hip-hop trio Migos – whose second album through QCM, C U L T U R E, debuted at #1 on both Billboard’s Top 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album charts less than three weeks ago – announced today that its future music will be released through QC and Motown/Capitol Records. The Migos/QC partnership with Motown/Capitol was announced today by the trio’s members Quavo, Takeoff and Offset, as well as QCM’s CEO, Pierre “Pee” Thomas, its COO, Kevin “Coach K” Lee, CMG’s Chairman and CEO Steve Barnett and Motown Records President Ethiopia Habtemariam.
Since emerging with its debut single, “Versace” in 2013, Migos has risen to become one the most popular and acclaimed hip-hop groups worldwide. In addition to debuting at the top of the charts on February 6 with C U L T U R E, the trip also achieved a #1 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with “Bad and Boujee” on January 21. Migos’ latest single, “T-Shirt” is already in the Top 20 on the Hot 100 chart prior to its February 18 commercial release. The group’s first U.S. tour of 2017 launched on Monday in Santa Ana, CA.
Pierre “Pee” Thomas commented, “This is a very exciting time for QC and Migos. We have been independently building our brand, and though our partnership with Motown/Capitol they have shown us that this is the right home to take our business to a global platform.”=
According to Kevin “Coach K” Lee, “”Working with Steve, Ethiopia and their whole team has been incredible. Like all of us at Quality Control, they work hard to push their artists’ visions front and center. It’s a creative and proactive alliance that always keeps the goals of QC in mind. Yes, I’m ready to conquer the world.”
Ethiopia Habtemariam said “We are beyond proud and excited to strengthen our relationship with Coach K and Pierre as they bring their franchise players, Migos, under the umbrella of the Quality Control partnership with Motown/Capitol. The members of Migos are true artists who are representing and driving youth culture as they break boundaries with their music. Less than two years ago, we began our relationship with QC because we believed in them and were aligned in a mission and purpose to propel our culture to a global market – and we are doing just that.”
Steve Barnett added, “We’re thrilled that our partnership with Quality Control is growing stronger by the day and that Coach K and Pee feel the benefits of CMG’s involvement in fulfilling their collective vision. Migos is a true phenomenon with a growing legion of fans that are propelling the group to unprecedented heights. We welcome Quavo, Takeoff and Offset as members of the CMG family, and we’re going to do everything we can to help them achieve their bold and creative ambitions as we take their music to the world.”
Quality Control Music was formed in March 2013 by partners Thomas and Lee, who have developed a hand-picked roster of talent from the longtime rap hotbed of Atlanta. The company includes a radio and promotions staff, as well as publishing and management divisions. QCM is based in Atlanta on the city’s West Side in headquarters that encompasses office spaces and recording studios. The company entered into a joint venture with CMG in 2015.
